Seminar with Mr. Michel de Coninck - Council of Belgium in Egypt - and his assistants
    Feb. 12th, 2019
 
On Tuesday, 12th of February, 2019, The Egyptian Belgian Business Association (EBBA) held a seminar with Mr. Michel de Coninck - Council of Belgium in Egypt - and his assistants, namely Mrs. Meganck, who is responsible for the visa section at the Embassy of Belgium in Cairo, and Mrs. Bianca van Dorrestein, who is in charge of Belgium with the TLS office.
 
The event took place at 6:00 pm at Automobile Club, 10 Kasr El Nil Street in Cairo, with Mr. Michel de Coninck as main speaker, accompanied by the a/m two ladies, to discuss the procedures and documents required to issue an entry visa, as well as to discuss the problems that members faces with the Schengen Visa and the corresponding suggested solutions.
 
The seminar was honored by the presence of Mr. Ludo Rochette, Deputy Head of Mission at the Belgian Embassy in Cairo, in addition to the presence of a large number of EBBA members.
 
The Council of Belgium and the two ladies explained in details the conditions that must be followed to facilitate getting a Schengen visa. They also indicated the importance of a letter from EBBA to avoid the problems that members have faced before.
 
Mr. Michel de Coninck presentation was very informative and willing to help. He and the two gentle ladies kindly answered all the questions offered by the attendees. Discussions lasted for more than an hour and half. Afterwards, everyone went to dinner, where discussions continued with the Council until the end of the seminar, which ended at about 10:00 pm.

Dinner Party at the residence of H.E. Ambassador of Belgium's - Mrs. Sibille De Cartier

His Majesty King Philippe of Belgium, and upon the proposition of H.E. the Belgian Minister of Foreign Affairs that was recommended by H.E. the Ambassador of Belgium in Egypt Mrs. Sibille De Cartier, granted an honorary decoration to the rank of "COMMANDEUR DE L'ORDRE DE LEOPART II", a high honorary decoration in Belgium to Mr. Rafik Attia, Chairman of EBBA, for his active role in activating the cooperation between Egypt and Belgium in many fields including trade, industry, tourism, and others.
 
In addition, an honorary decoration was awarded to the rank of "CHEVALIER DE L'ORDRE DE LEOPARD II" to Mr .Mounir El Ghannam, EBBA member, for his distinguished services to activate economic relations between the two countries.

On the occasion of the awarding of these decorations, on Tuesday February 5th, 2019, H.E. Ambassador of Belgium in Egypt held a big party at her residence in EL HARAM.
 
Many key characters were invited to attend this nice event, including officials, diplomats, and business members of the association, and others.

EBBA Delegate 9th Annual Visit to Belgium
    June 16th to 20th, 2019
 
Starting from June 16th till 20th of June, 2019 a very successful business trip by EBBA delegated members took place to Belgium. It was very-well arranged by Mr. Yahia El Wathik Bellah - Commercial Minister Plenipotentiary and Head of Commercial Office at the Egyptian Embassy in Brussels and his assistants.
 
On Monday, June 17th, H.E. Ambassador Khaled El Bakly, Ambassador of Egypt to Belgium & EU, kindly held a great reception at his residence for the delegation and their Belgian guests, along with some Belgian officials, including heads of several chambers in Belgium, and others. The reception included members of both the Commercial Office and the Egyptian Embassy in Brussels. H.E. also accompanied the delegation in most of the events and meetings that took place during the trip.
 
Later on Tuesday June 18th, Mr. Yahia El Wathik Bellah - Commercial Minister Plenipotentiary and Head of Commercial Office at the Egyptian Embassy in Brussels hosted a dinner at his residence for the EBBA delegation.
 
Many high-level meetings of great importance took place during this trip, namely:
- Chamber of Commerce at Brussels: EBBA delegation attended a presentation discussing the Egypt Economy - Investment & Business opportunities, by Mr. Amr Nour El din - Chairman Advisor of GAFI, in the presence of Mr. Qaisar Hijazin - Secretary General of ABLCC, Mr. Yahia El Wathik Bellah - Commercial Minister Plenipotentiary and Head of Commercial Office in Brussels, and Mrs. Fabienne L'hoost - Director General at Belgian Foreign Trade Agency. They also attended a B2B meeting with some Belgian parties, where they exchanged their views and visions about potential business opportunities.
 
- Chamber of Commerce in Antwerp: where they visited Belgian Scrap Terminal, welcomed by Mrs. Jill Suetens - Manager International - and attended a presentation about latest developments in business and investment where they watched a short film about Investment Environment in Egypt. The delegation also attended a B2B meeting with Belgian parties, followed by a reception with the Governor of Antwerp.
 
- Chamber of Commerce in Ghent: where they were well received by Mr. Geert Moerman, CEO of VOKA East Flanders & Mr. Mathias De Clereq, Mayor of the Ghent City. They attended a presentation on the Economy of Ghent by Mrs. Els De Leeuw, director of the economic department of Ghent City. Afterwards, watched a short film about business and Investment Environment in Egypt.
 
The delegation also attended a B2B meeting with some Flemish companies, and enjoyed a Boat trip and lunch at the covered terrace.

Annual Ramadan Iftar
    May 27th, 2019
 
On Monday 27thof May, 2019 (22ndof Ramadan, 1440 Hijri), and as a tradition connected to this special event, the Egyptian Belgian Business Association (EBBA) organized the annual Ramadan Iftar for its members.
 
This year, the event took place at "Automobile Club", located at No 10, Kasr El Nil St., Cairo. Around fifty members from EBBA - along with and their families - attended the Iftar.
 
The event was honored by the presence of H.E. Sibille De Cartier, Ambassador of Belgium to Egypt, as well as some distinguished guests from the Embassy of Belgium in Cairo and from Taxes Authority & GAFI.
 
After the Iftar, all attendees celebrated the birthday of Mr. Hazem Hasanein - Manager of the European Department in the Commercial Representation Office in the Ministry of Commerce and Industry - during which they shared him in cutting the big tart that was specially presented to him by Mr. Rafik Attia - Chairman of EBBA & the members of the Board.
 
It was an enjoyable event in a nice family atmosphere.

Seminar with the African Export - Import Bank Authorities

On Wednesday, July 17th, 2019, the management of African Export Import Bank (Afreximbank) invited EBBA members for a seminar at the bank premises, 72 B Maahad El Etihad El Eshtraky St., Heliopolis, Cairo.
 
The aim of the seminar was to explain the role of the bank in assisting the Egyptian businessmen who wish to invest & cooperate with African companies, encouraging the private sector to export & import from Africa, explaining the facilities offered by the bank in this regard, and finally answering interested attendees' questions regarding aspects that are related to this important matter.
 
The seminar started at 4:00 pm. Mrs. Kanayo Awani - Managing Director of the bank - expressed her welcome and thanks to Mr. Rafik Attia - Chairman of EBBA - and EBBA members for their attendance and their interest to acquaint the activities of the bank.
 
More than 20 EBBA members attended the seminar. And the speeches of the different departments' leaders were truly very promising. They expressed their willingness to help and assist any of the members to start his work with Africa in the any of the several fields available; including industrial, commercial, touristic, services, as well as others. They answered all members' questions related to these aspects.
 
Before the end of the seminar, the attendees and the bank leaders exchanged their business cards with promise from EBBA members to visit the bank individually.
 
Finally the seminar ended at around 6:30 pm, with a promise to repeat such fruitful meetings as per members' request.
 
The seminar was followed by a business lunch that was hosted by the bank administration.
